Biography
VÆB (pronounced "vibe") is an Icelandic electronic music duo formed by brothers Hálfdán Helgi Matthíasson and Matthías Davíð Matthíasson. Originating from Kópavogur, Iceland, the duo has been active since 2022 and is known for blending electronic, hip-hop, and electropop genres. They gained international recognition by representing Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with their song "Róa."
VÆB began their musical journey in 2022, initially gaining attention on TikTok with their comedic song "Aron Can (Borðar kál)," a tribute to the Icelandic rapper Aron Can. The song's popularity led them to release it on Spotify, marking their entry into the music industry.
In September 2022, they released their debut studio album, Væb tékk, which included singles like "Aron Can (Borðar kál)" and "Þetta kallar á drykk." Their remix of "Ofboðslega frægur" in collaboration with Ingi Bauer achieved commercial success, debuting in the top 20 of Iceland's Tónlistinn chart. Another single, "Tölur tala," also charted, finishing at 21st position.
In 2024, VÆB participated in Söngvakeppnin, Iceland's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, with their song "Bíómynd." They advanced to the finals and finished in fourth place. Despite not winning, "Bíómynd" was the most popular song among the competition entries, becoming the only one to enter Iceland's top 10 chart.
The following year, they returned to Söngvakeppnin with the song "Róa," co-written with Gunnar Björn Gunnarsson and Ingi Þór Garðarsson. They won both the jury and public votes, earning the right to represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.
"Róa" was released on January 17, 2025, and achieved significant success, reaching number one on Iceland's Tónlistinn chart. The song also charted in other countries, including Sweden (9th), Lithuania (28th), Norway (50th), and the UK Singles Sales Chart (33rd).
At Eurovision, VÆB performed in the first semi-final on May 13, 2025, and qualified for the grand final held on May 17. They finished in 25th place with 33 points.
