Petite2Queen Names Top 25 Films Starring Powerful Female Role Models - Actress Brie Larson In 'Captain Marvel' Included For 2019
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Movies have great impact in our culture, so Petite2Queen wanted to highlight female characters in film that are powerful, brave, and remarkably strong.

Petite2Queen, the online virtual mentoring site for women, has announced their list of the Top 25 Films featuring powerful female role models. Website staffers picked their favorite films spanning many decades and genres, but all led by inspiring female characters. Heading up the list for 2019 was actress Brie Larson, who played Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. The list was announced by P2Q CEO/Founder Lynn Whitbeck and can be found here. The two-part podcast discussion can be found here and here.

"We picked 25 films that highlight the strength, intelligence, and perseverance of women from all walks of life," says Whitbeck. "Movies have great impact in our culture, so Petite2Queen wanted to highlight female characters in film that are powerful, brave, and remarkably strong. Whether fighting sexual harassment at work or an invading army of warriors, these are ladies who show just what women can achieve."

The Top 25 list contains women not only in live action films, but some animated features as well. The aforementioned Captain Marvel film starring Brie Larson stood out to all staffers. "All of us felt the Carol Danvers character is not what we would expect from a female lead," says Whitbeck. "She burns with confidence and power. She smirks and grins throughout the action, expresses anger and frustration instead of quiet sadness. This role shows a confident woman saving the world, and having fun while doing it."

One selection sure to be controversial is the staffers' pick of Cinderella, the original Disney animated classic from 1950 starring Ilene Woods. "This film is not exactly what comes to mind when you think of strong female characters," says Whitbeck. Adds our Content Director, "Some would think the character is a weak woman who wallowed in a miserable situation until a man comes to save her. But during our judging we all came to realize that Cinderella was strong as hell and waited for no one. Despite facing years of emotional abuse by her own family, she never became spiteful or cruel. So she happened to land a prince in the end, that doesn't make her any less strong."

Other films on the list include Alien (1979) starring Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, Erin Brokovich starring Julia Roberts as Erin Brokovich, Holiday (1938) starring Katharine Kepburn as Linda Seton, The Hunchback for Notre Dame (1996) starring Demi Moore as Esmerelda, The Hunger Games (2012) starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, The Last Jedi (2017) starring Daisy Ridley as Rey, and Star Wars starring Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa.
