
LOS ANGELES (www.carselevents.com) - Carsel Events and The Immigrant Magazine is proud to announce a new series of events the "Los Angeles International
Music Series" - or L.A.I.M.S a monthly get together celebrating the music and dance of the many different international communities living in and around the greater Los Angeles area - with a focus on that communities history and contribution to Los Angeles.
Our first event will take place at the hip and happening Club Zanzibar and will celebrate the local South African community in an event entitled "Focus on South Africa."
This event will include the following:
1/A celebration of the 12th anniversary of Freedom Day in South Africa which celebrates South Africa's first democratic general elections - held April 27th 1994.
2/A Lifetime Achievement Award for South Africa's smooth jazz King - Jonathan Butler. Jonathan will be present to accept the award.
3/South African jazz pianist,vocalist and T.V. personality - Chloe Moodley - will be performing a set of Butler's songs - as part of the Lifetime Achievement ceremony.
4/A live performance by Afro Beat Down - a 10-14 piece African band playing a unique mix of African music.
5/A short ceremony to celebrate the Academy Award won by the movie "Tsotsi" - presented by Milan Records.
6/DJ's Sachay and DJ Charles (formely of the "Bamboo Club")will spin all your favourite South African Dance Music from the 80's through today including a mix of Mbaqanga,Kwaito,Jazz and more...Some artists to be featured include : The Soweto Jazz Pioneers, The Elite Swingsters, Jonathan Butler(of course), Ernie Smith (Jazz) Soul Brothers, Johnny Clegg and Savuka,Juluka(Mbaqanga) Zola, Malaika, Mafikizola (Kwaito) and many others...
