Brentwood, TN. (Sparrow Records) - Christian music innovator
TobyMac recently received RIAA Gold certification for his first two solo albums, MOMENTUM (2001) and WELCOME TO DIVERSE CITY (2004), marking sales of more than 500,000 copies each in the U.S. His third set, PORTABLE SOUNDS, is due in stores February 20, 2007.
No stranger to industry recognition, TobyMac's track record includes numerous gold and platinum discs, national radio hits, and GRAMMY awards as a founding member of dc Talk.
Thanking his management team, record company personnel, band members, and more, TobyMac gave special props to his wife of 14 years, Amanda, saying, 'All of this is impossible without you.'
Early buzz suggests that PORTABLE SOUNDS will further expand and redefine TobyMac's trademark mix of pop, rock, hip-hop, and funk.
Thematically, he says, 'The main pressure I put on myself was a commitment to make a record that was true to what God is breathing through my life . . . . Am I struggling with my human relationships? Are my friends struggling with me? What's going on socially? Where are the conflicts? Where are the struggles? Where are we overcoming? That's what I like my writing to be about.'
Stylistically, PORTABLE SOUNDS is led by the new radio hit and sing-along anthem 'Made To Love,' a rock/funk spectacle called 'Boomin,'' the disco-meets-reggae of 'One World' and 'No Ordinary Love,' plus the richly textured pop of 'Face Of The Earth' and 'Soul.'
TobyMac will launch a tour in support of PORTABLE SOUNDS on March 8 with special guests Thousand Foot Krutch, Building 429, and Family Force 5. For concert dates and complete new album details, visit www.tobymac.com.
