Southampton Music, UK (Top40 Charts/ Sonic Underground Website) - For a label that has consistently broken the mold, this latest release is already generating attention, both for the musical sensibility of the project and for the undeniably high quality of the music. Says SONIC UNDERGROUND's principal Gian DiMauro, "In the tradition of when albums were complete works, not just a collection of songs, we fashioned LUCKY 13 to take the listener on a musical journey from start to finish." Not coincidentally, this year also marks the 13th anniversary of the label.
Early listenings of the CD have already stirred curiosity and provoked a dialogue among the music cognoscenti in the media. Times Square Gossip said of the project, "If a producer walked into a major label these days and pitched releasing a compilation of 3 female singers, doing all original songs and production ... chances are the producer would be laughed out the door." Several key music critics on both the East and West Coast have compared the combined works to such timeless artists as Carole King, Laura Nyro, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, and, Annie Lennox.
As Sonic Underground celebrates their 13th Anniversary, the time seems right for a project such as this. Give a listen to DeVita's delightful "Saturday Girl" and Kreger's "Love's Easy Chair", and, Geller's own tracks "Me Versus The Pill" and "OK (The la, la song)." DeVita's "Nobody Says Sweetheart" is an early favorite too. DeVita scored an early production deal with the legendary record producer Arif Mardin, and his nuanced-influence is felt all over track.
Noted celebrity-biographer and music aficionado Mark Bego, called the project "A welcome return to the tried and true song-cycle format. Luscious music, a message, and, a sensibility... make it all work. Very well done!"
LUCKY 13 will be properly launched with an event at NYC's The Cutting Room, on Monday July 21.
