NEW YORK (N. Orleans news) - The Kinks front man Ray Davies is recovering after being shot by a mugger who snatched his girlfriend's bag.

Davies, who penned Waterloo Sunset, had left a restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Sunday night when his partner's bag was grabbed. He gave chase but one of the two muggers turned and fired, hitting him in the leg, police said. Davies, 59, was treated at a nearby hospital but later discharged. "He should be up and about in a day or so. The message that came back to me was that he is in good spirits," said his manager Deke Arlon. Davies's girlfriend was not hurt in the robbery.
His spokesman declined to name the hospital where the star was treated or the name of the woman who was with him at the time.
Davies was awarded a CBE last week in the New Year honours list for services to music.
