LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts) London's famous Ministry Of Sound nightclub has successfully blocked plans by developers to build residential apartments across the road from the South London super club. The music company feared that if flats were built so close to its venue that it would ultimately lead to complaints about noise leakage from the clubbing complex, which would in turn cause licensing difficulties in the future.
The popular hot spot, situated in the Elephant and Castle area of England's capital city, faced significant issues after a construction company announced that it wanted to build a top of the range residential complex nearby, but thanks to a petition with over 25,000 signatures the club will remain open and the plans have been overthrown.
Lohan Presencer, Ministry of Sound's CEO, issued the following official statement:
"We did it! Southwark Council's planning committee has refused the planning application for the Oakmayne tower block.
This means that the scheme cannot proceed without major changes. Ministry of Sound is working towards a new vision for the site that addresses the needs of the Elephant & Castle community whilst protecting the jobs of our 200 employees and the future of our club, record label, events and media businesses.
A huge thank you to the 26,000 plus people who signed the petition. Last night the Planning Committee showed why local democracy matters to this country.'
UK hitmaker Example, DJs Armin van Buuren and Judge Jules all helped to spearhead the campaign to save the venue.
