New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ CSS Music) Leading royalty-free music provider, CSS Music, has thrived for more than three decades in the production music library industry. During their time in business, CSS
Music has regularly contributed to the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation. The foundation fights to keep music programs in schools alive and foster young talent.
The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation got its name from a fictional character,
Glenn Holland, in the 1995 movie "Mr. Holland's Opus" starring Richard Dreyfuss. The movie told the story of a 1960's musician / composer who was dragged kicking and screaming into teaching only to eventually fall in love with it. In the end, after 30 years, despite his impassioned pleas, his school cuts the music department. This story is played out to one degree or another in many school districts across the country. Budgets are cut, instruments are in short supply, opportunities are lost. The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation takes the position that kids that are given the chance to play music not only enrich their own lives but their communities at large and are generally better students as well. "We've been very fortunate in our 32 years in the production music library industry," says CSS
Music Marketing Director, Mike Fuller. "Our contributions to Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation and the BMI Foundation were small. But what if all BMI writers and publishers and those who enjoyed the movie 'Mr. Holland's Opus' made similar small contributions. What a difference that would make. Even more kids would have instruments to play and more students would get the scholarship money they need to finish their music education. I honestly think all would benefit."
The BMI Foundation is affiliated with the music performing rights organization Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI). BMI is one of three US PROs. The foundation's work involves providing scholarships for music students and providing funding of community music groups. Past winners of BMI Foundation scholarships that continue their writing and composing have enjoyed great success. Andrew Horowitz, for example, won the BMI Foundation
John Lennon Scholarship and had his winning song, "Goodday," placed in the television show, "The O.C." Donations to the BMI Foundation can be made online at https://www.bmifoundation.org/donate https://www.bmifoundation.org/donate https://www.bmifoundation.org/donate .
