London, UK (Top40 Charts/ Africa Centre) The Africa Centre is incredibly excited to announce that the headline act at next month's Summer Festival will be the international star and neo-soul singer, Nneka.
"Nneka is an amazing talent and a perfect role model for the young artists we want to cultivate. With such a packed programme of African cultural events, there's certainly something to suit all tastes and I would encourage all Africanists to come along to support us."
Nneka first came to prominence in 2004 when she appeared as a warm-up act for reggae star, Sean Paul, at his concert in Hamburg. Ever since her debut album, 'The Uncomfortable Truth', in 2005,
Nneka has been building a catalogue of challenging, political soul and hip hop music. Best known for her 2008 single, 'Heartbeat', her work has been compared to
Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill.
She will thrill attendees of the Africa Centre's Summer Festival with a live performance on the evening of Saturday, August 3rd. This charity event, that is seeking to raise funds for the Africa Centre's future cultural and business event programming, will be held in London's iconic cultural destination, Covent Garden. Other performing artists include DJ Edu, the anchor for BBC 1xtra's "Destination Africa" radio show, and Wale Ojo and the London Afrobeat Collective. The festival, curated by the acclaimed artist, Yinka Shonibare, MBE, will also feature African films and photography, visual art exhibitions and a catwalk show from Africa Fashion Week London.
